A New Era for Data Interoperability
The CHIE is moving to a new FHIR®-enabled platform in 2024
The new platform offers a more modern user interface to access your patients’ longitudinal health records.
After consulting with our community’s advisory committee, we will migrate five years of data with the exception of opt out consents, immunizations, allergies, and colonoscopies for which a longer history will be migrated. Technical implementation is currently underway and we anticipate user migrations will start in Q3 of 2024. We will keep all CHIE users informed of our progress via email.
What Enhancements Can You Expect?
FHIR-based Data Warehouse
FHIR-based Enterprise Data Warehouse that supports UHIN in the collection, organization, modeling, mining, and conversion of healthcare data into quantifiable, usable information.
Enhanced FHIR® Capabilities
Our new platform was built on the HL7® FHIR® standard which allows for more efficient and secure sharing of data across enterprises.
Improved Security
The new platform is fully secure and will incorporate Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and Single Sign-On (SSO).
Waste Measures
Waste measures such as repeat imaging studies, ambulatory care sensitive condition ED visits, and repeat cardiac studies or blood tests.
(Planned for inclusion to the platform at a later date)
Quality Measures
Quality measures such as HbA1c results under 7 percent, Ischemic Vascular Disease, and severe diabetes will also be available in the CHIE portal.
(Planned for inclusion to the platform at a later date)
Please note: Except for portal users, the transition will be seamless to you. We’ll reach out to you if this is not the case.
New Experience for Clinical Portal Users
CHIE Portal users will see the greatest updates in a modern user interface that offers access to Health Information Exchange (HIE) data through FHIR® standards. Portal users will be able to search and view patient data, and configure their dashboard to optimize workflows.
The CHIE for You
The new platform allows us to better assess data quality and work with our sources on improvements. Through the evolution of the CHIE, we will continue to strive towards delivering and sharing the data that you need to improve health outcomes and further interoperability.
Data Quality
We will perform internal validation as part of the data migration to improve completeness and accuracy of the data sent to the CHIE. We will reach out to data sources if an issue is identified.
The CHIE provides the technical infrastructure for interoperability of health data in Utah. However, it depends on members of the healthcare ecosystem in Utah (including, but not limited to, hospitals, providers, and payers) to submit complete, accurate, and timely data to create these health records.
Data may be missing on patients if it was not submitted to the CHIE or if the patient has opted out of sharing through the CHIE. We appreciate all collaborative efforts and your support towards ensuring we can achieve these healthcare interoperability goals.
The success of the CHIE depends on the joint efforts of all.
