Improve your patient’s life. Simplify yours.
The Clinical Health Information Exchange (CHIE) is the state-designated HIE for all of Utah. We also exchange data with surrounding areas and on a national scale.
Patients, providers, payers, ACOs
Clinical Records Exchange
A patient’s data should (electronically) follow them anywhere they go. Right now Clinical Records Exchange is done using slow, out-of-date methods like Fax or CDs!
We’re modernizing and streamlining that exchange with our Clinical Records Exchange.
Records are often stored at different healthcare organizations and frequently are not shared. Through the CHIE you can access these records by either connecting directly from you EMR or through UHIN’s Provider Portal.

Data Sources
The CHIE includes records from more than 5.5 million patients from 1,200 providers and 50 hospitals in and around Utah.

The CHIE Alerts system sends your team secure notifications when your patients are admitted to, or discharged from, a hospital or emergency department, so you can coordinate care more effectively.
Alerts subscribers are notified of important patient events for real-time care coordination.
When your patients have been hospitalized, they need timely follow-up care to lessen their risk of readmission or complications.
You can receive CHIE Alerts in real time or choose custom delivery times.

Direct Secure Messaging
“Direct” is an implementation of the nationwide secure messaging protocol for healthcare organizations.
It’s a secure and easy way to communicate with healthcare professionals outside your organization.
CHIE Direct accelerates the reimbursement cycle by allowing providers and payers to exchange claim attachment requests and documentation within a single system. It also enables long-term care facilities to quickly submit prior authorization requests when admitting Medicaid beneficiaries.

Population Cubes
Patient population data cubes, ready for analysis
Normalization is used in 2 processes:
Providers and Payers can subscribe to a particular patient’s data stream.
Any new information on that patient will come into UHIN’s system, where we normalize it and push it into the subscriber’s system in format that is ready for analysis.
Pre-normalized data cubes.
We can prepare data cubes based off of patient populations using data that we have already normalized. Those cubes are immediately ready for analysis.

Identity Management Services
Need help resolving patient identities? Want to improve the quality of your Master Patient Index (MPI)?
Using information from community and national databases, the CHIE’s Identity Management Services can verify the quality of your MPI, calculate and report duplication rates, and provide identity resolution suggestions.
You also receive real-time reports on patient identities as they enter your system, delivered in easy-to-consume visual formats.
Patient-Centered Data Home
Health information exchanges (HIEs) are connecting nationwide to seamlessly deliver patient health information across state lines and across health systems, improving the patient experience by making health information available whenever and wherever care occurs.
UHIN is spearheading PCDH efforts in the Intermountain West, connecting with HIEs and data hubs across the US.
